एलाईन्स फर डेमोक्र्यासि संस्थाको ऐतिहासिक चुनाव

अमेरिकास्थित सबैभन्दा पुरानो तथा नेपालको प्रजातन्त्र र मानव अधिकारको बिषयमा नेपालका जनआन्दोलनहरूमा गहन भूमिका निभाएर चर्चित भएको संस्था एलाईन्स फर डेमोक्र्यासी एन्ड ह्युमन राइट्स इन नेपाल (Alliance for Democracy & Human Rights in Nepal, ADHRN) संस्थाको ईतिहासमा पहिलो पटक चुनावी प्रक्रियाद्वारा अनिल शाहीको अध्क्षतामा १५ सदस्यीय नयाँ कार्यसमिती चयन भएको छ ।

कार्यसमितिको आध्यक्षमा अनिल शाहि, उपाध्यक्ष प्रथममा बिन्दु चौधरी, उपाध्यक्ष द्वितीयमा प्रकाश बम, महासचिवमा नगेन्द्र ईङनाम, सह-सचिव शान्ति गुरुङ र कोशाध्यक्षमा अनुप काफ्ले रहनु भएको छ । कार्यसमिति सदस्यहरुमा क्रमश : युब राज आचार्य, होम राज आचार्य, दिल बहादुर बिस्वकर्मा, कमला के बिस्वकर्मा, सिर्जना क्षेत्री, लब कु बुढा मगर, प्रमोद थुलुङ राई, मुनिन्द्र बिक्रमनेम्बाङ र फुर्बा शेर्पा हुनुहुन्छ ।

सम्पन्न चुनाबमा अनिल शाही सभापति पदमा नेपाली समूदायमाझ १०३ भोट ल्याएर बिजयी भएका छन। शाहीले ४१ भोट प्राप्त गर्ने सभापति पदका अर्का बिपक्षी उम्मेदबार सोमनाथ घिमिरेलाई सजिलै पराजित गरे। अमेरिकी नेपालीहरुबीच मतदान प्रकृयाबाट कार्य समिति चयन गर्ने प्रजातन्त्रिक अभ्यासलाई अगाडि बढाउदै सम्पन्न सो चुनाबमा नगेन्द्र ईङनामले सबै पदाधिकरीहरुमध्ये सबैभन्दा बढी १०५ भोट ल्याई महासचिब पदमा बिजयी भएका छन।
संस्थाको चेयर- पर्सन र सल्लाहकारहरूको चयन कार्यसमितिको पहिलो बैठकले गर्ने जानकारी गराईएको छ। सो चुनाब सम्पन्न गराउन डा. गोबिन्द कोइराला र बिनोद रोकाको संयोजकत्वमा मतदान समिति गठन गरिएको थियो । यसपालीको चुनाबबाट नेपाली जनजातीहरु पनि राजनीतिक रूपले सशक्त रुपमा अगाडि आएका छ्न। यसैबिच निबर्तमान सभापति संजय पराजुलीले आफ्नो कार्यकालमा सहयोग पुरयाउने सबैलाई धन्यबाद दिनुभएको छ। नवनिर्वाचित कार्यसमितिका पदाधिकारीको सपथ ग्रहण यही जुलाई १५ तारिख आईतवारका दिन क्वीन्स ब्रिज पार्कमा हुने न्यूयोर्कका नेपालीहरुको सबैभन्दा ठूलो भेला- भानु जयन्ती समारोह २००७ का बिच हुने कुरा एलायन्सले जनाएको छ।

I remember once in Nepal of some sort of opinion poll being conducted by an agency called Alliance of Democracy circa 1996. Is this the same organization?

There was a person with the last name Pandey as members (president?) of the organization.

Poonte, congrats on your landslide victory!! Expectations are high it seems and the right candidate has been chosen to lead the ailing organization. BTW, just watched ET again on Saturday (coincidentally met you on Sunday). LOL On a more serious note, wishing you all success!!

We plan to start our term with commuinity meetings in the North East to begin with. If they at all go well, we plan to expand those informative sessions throughout North America. Stay tuned!

Shirish-jee, I will email you regarding one of those community meetings in your area.

Ashu, I will get in touch with you too via email regarding the recent GAA Convention. Just wondering if you had the chance to attend it, or if you have any information on it. I am interested in exploring the possibilities of coordinating with them for some of our planned activities.
